Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the former royal to widen access to instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
